The one problem with that is how compressed the default scanning rate is set 
too.

I once asked if a oversized image could be scanned at a high quality scan rate 
of my choice and was told no, it would be scanned at a preset default.  

Often times it’s the lowest denominator, unless you can do use a walk up 
scanner and make all adjustments yourself.
