Thanks Stephan. No I did not configure xinetd. Where is this
written in the wiki? I just checked again in the Fedora17 page
linked in the Linux Build page and does not say anything about
xinetd.
In any case, please do send me the configuration needed. If it is
not in the wiki it must be added
by someone.
An do I really need to disable iptables?

no errors at all would be quite
unusual for CDE. It's normally quite verbose about
what it is doing.
Did you check your ${HOME}/.dt/startlog,
${HOME}/.dt/errorlog and ${HOME}/.dt/sessionlogs
already?
