OK I fixed the problem. CDE could not find it's libraries. So I
added /usr/dt/lib/
in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/cde.conf
run ldconfig
and CDE runs fine.
I checked again the LinuxBuild and the RH-Fedora notes for building
and installing CDE
and I do not see anywhere this point.
Shouldn't this be done by the installCDE script? Is this a bug or
missing from the script?
Antonis.

Hi Antonis,
I have CDE 2.2.3 running successfully on Scientific
Linux 7 which is equivalent to CentOS 7. You must manually
install and configure xinetd if you have not done so already.
Otherwise the desktop will not appear as you have described.
I can send you my configuration files if you’d like.

Stephan
Hello Antonis,
no errors at all would be quite
unusual for CDE. It's normally quite verbose about
what it is doing.
Did you check your ${HOME}/.dt/startlog,
${HOME}/.dt/errorlog and ${HOME}/.dt/sessionlogs
already?
Kind regards,
Martin
