Not a bad thought. I'd forgotten about FireBird.
Not a surprise... MySQL has a wider user base than Firebird, and along with PostgreSQL they've been in the Open Source arena a little bit more.
How well do FireBird's ODBC/JDBC drivers work with OOo?
For me its fine. I've been only using de JDBC driver to connect from a Win XP box to a Firebird 1.3 SuperServer on a SuSe 7.3 Linux box. I made the installation a couple of days ago, so i'm still testing.
Currently i was able to insert, update and delete records on tables with default and autoincrement values, but i want to push this a little more with calculated fields, stored procedures and views.
By the way, personally i dont recommend the ODBC Driver because Open Source ones arent as mature as needed, and the cost from Propietary ones ranges from 180 to 275 USD.
At present the PostgreSQL ones aren't so happy. :( Reading tables and simple stuff is fine, but inserting rows into tables with sequences and default values doesn't work well enough to recommend it.
too bad... Its a good DBMS.
Does FireBird do better?
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift
