Open Office is a terrific product; since becoming proficient with Open Office I
have not even bothered to reload MS Office! I am somewhat confused about your
question relating to PDF. Are you asking whether you can author a PDF file with
open office or just view pdf files with open office?

You cannot author a .pdf file with open office; but you may be able to view
some .pdf files with certain components of Open Office. To view .pdf files go
to www.adobe.com and download acrobat reader; it is free. As for authoring .pdf
files; you must buy that software from adobe. Unfortunately that software does
get pricey.

As for getting a CD to download Open Office to your PC; it is very easy, but
not necessary. If you have a decent internet connection you can go to
www.openoffice.org and simply download the zip file to your computer then burn
the zip file to a CD for an archive copy.
