I've tried with several brand. (JVC & TDK at least) => I cannot burn a DVD+RW with growisofs => I can burn a DVD+RW with cdrecord (even if speed is not "normal")
Everything's running perfect on Windows :-( So this cannot be a hardware problem. (wrong IDE cabling) Perhaps a DMA problem, I'll have a look at it. I've upgraded the firware to latest revision already (1.02) By the way I can burn CD-R/CD-RW at "normal" speed. (40X) Output of dvd+rw-mediainfo : (did I say I'm a total newbie in DVD burning ? If not, I'm a total newbie and didn't know about dvd+rw-mediainfo) $>dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/dvd INQUIRY: [PLEXTOR ][DVDR PX-750A ][1.02] GET [CURRENT] CONFIGURATION: Mounted Media: 1Ah, DVD+RW Media ID: RITEK/004 Current Write Speed: 4.0x1385=5540KB/s Write Speed #0: 4.0x1385=5540KB/s Write Speed #1: 2.4x1385=3324KB/s Speed Descriptor#0: 00/2295103 [EMAIL PROTECTED]/s [EMAIL PROTECTED]/s Speed Descriptor#1: 00/2295103 [EMAIL PROTECTED]/s [EMAIL PROTECTED]/s READ DVD STRUCTURE[#0h]: Media Book Type: 92h, DVD+RW book [revision 2] Legacy lead-out at: 1103616*2KB=2260205568 READ DISC INFORMATION: Disc status: complete Number of Sessions: 1 State of Last Session: complete Number of Tracks: 1 BG Format Status: suspended READ TRACK INFORMATION[#1]: Track State: complete incremental Track Start Address: 0*2KB Free Blocks: 0*2KB Fixed Packet Size: 16*2KB Track Size: 2295104*2KB FABRICATED TOC: Track#1 : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Track#AA : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Multi-session Info: [EMAIL PROTECTED] READ CAPACITY: 2295104*2048=4700372992of Many thanks for your answer Kind regards David Selon Andy Polyakov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > I've ran into problems burning DVD with growisofs. > > As a summary : > > * growisofs DVD+R : works but at 0.5X (instead of 16X) > > 0.5x is so pathological that it makes me believe that it's underlying > hardware communication problem, such as no DMA, wrong IDE cabling, etc. > Do examine your hardware configuration... > > > * growisofs DVD+RW : fail with message > > --- > > :-[ [EMAIL PROTECTED] failed with SK=5h/ASC=30h/ACQ=05h]: Wrong medium type > > :-( media is not formatted or unsupported. > > :-( write failed: Wrong medium type > > Most commonly this means that particular media brand is not supported by > your firmware.
