SATA drives nowadays appear as sg,sr,scd.
Seen from outside it is quite like good old ide-scsi.

There is no indication that the new SATA driver code
in general would provoke failures like the ones reported
by growisofs.
But of course the individual kernel version might have
a bug. Shrug. Life on kernel 2.4 is good. Only old bugs.
