So I downloaded a copy of the latest cdrtools from http://www.student.tugraz.at/thomas.plank/ and gave it a try on my WinXP install. Other than the drive showing up at a different spot (2,0,0 rather than 1,0,0) it seemed to behave the same as the -scanbus in Linux, but when I went to burn an audio disc everything worked great. So I'm guessing this is an indication of a problem in the Linux device driver, maybe at the SATA level, maybe in SG? Do you still want me to try this with the Solaris CD? I can't seem to find any BIOS option that'll let me force it into PATA compat mode (which doesn't really surprise me, the BIOS on this board seems curiously light on some options), so I'm suspecting it's just not going to work since you've already found problems with this SATA device in the past. What would you like me to try next?
