that's true, but they do that by being full duplex, broadcasting continuously.

The stuff is a bit pricy but what is backhaul today may be baseband tomorrow.

it's not just the price, it's that it's a highly directional point-to-point setup, not something that allows more than two devices to talk at once.

If they're using phase encoding or similar, that's pushing the ragged
