They support many encoding schemes, and will use all channels in each direction. As conditions degrade, the speed will slow.

The top speed is using 1024-QAM modulation, it will then fall back to 256-QAM (which is the top that 802.11ac will use), and then to 64-QAM (which is the top of 802.11n)

This has far more in common with old fashioned microwave links than Wi-Fi
