So far the P4 is a big disappointment.
In office and productivity applications, including 3D Rendering the P4 is
eclipsed by the 1.2Ghz Athlon processor.
the P4 only shines with games and multimedia, and specifically games and
multimedia programs that have been written to take advantage of its SSE
instruction set. The P4 absolutely screams to be ramped up to very high
clock speeds in order for you to even start to see the benefits of the
processor.
If you play games, and the Quake III and similar game engines
specifically..then the P4 could be your baby..
Otherwise for Office Productivity, stick to the tried and true mistress
Athlon. The P4's adolescent flair isn't worth the
price premium at the moment, in my view.
I put together a brief overview on the chip with regards to the latest
reviews out there and gaming for a mailing list I'm on..if you like I could
send it to your email address.

Anyone have an opinion, pro or negative, about the new Pentium 4? I don't
care about the price - as it stands, it's either use the money for this or
pay it to the government in taxes.
