Because, at least in America, and IMHO, we have a culture where it is easier
to blame big media, big companies, or basically, anyone but ourselves. It's
a bit tangential, but I think it bares repeating that, in general, we don't
like to take responsibility for the actions we do. It's always easier to
blame someone, or something else.

"I #insert violent or stupid actions# because #insert current scape goat#".

p.s. I always thought it would be funny if instead of the normal coffee
warning "The coffee is hot, blah blah blah." the warning would read "For
those of you too stupid to know that coffee is hot ..."
