This is a pretty standard thing to have in the intro message to the newly
subscribed and it's there for a reason. I've been on majordomo lists that
are pretty screwy (albeit on purpose as a joke and as a way to keep people
who have deleted the intro message from unsubscribing). You can do a lot of
strange things to the list address. You could have waited until you got a
message from the list (this is pretty standard behavior) but as the list
owner, this guy has a problem.
If he doesn't want to be bothered with people who don't know how to guess
majordomo addresses, he should put the addresses in the intro message.
Beyond that, it is completely unnecessary for him to bitch you out and
unsubscribe you. That takes much more effort than sending a message that
says "the address you want to send mail to is: [insert address here]" and I
really wonder what kind of deranged person feels the need to spend so much
time being bitter.
