You missed the point.  The underlying issue is that the parents are putting more value 
on money than on their child and that there
seems to be nothing sacred anymore.  In the U.S. it seems like everything is for sale 
(child's name, vital organs, immortal souls -
this was on ebay at one point, secrets of National security, etc.) and that everyone 
is suing everyone else just for the money (I
have way too many examples of this).
