helped as well. Thanks for the information. I will look into it.

Interesting John. I am from there. I suggest you contact someone at the West
Virginia Collection at WVU libraries. I worked at the archives while going
there and they have a wealth of information about WV history.

as an aside to this discussion. My family roots extend deep into the West
Virginia hills, near Maryland and as far back as the 1840 census, they were
not slave owners. this is interesting to me because I have always wondered
if, being farmers, they had owned slaves.

this makes me wonder why they didnt? did they not believe in it? or were
they too poor?

either way, it is interesting.

I have a hard time feeling like its right for me to agree with him,
since im not african american, however I  can certainly say that it
crosses
the color lines, especially in the south, and ESPECIALLY where I live.

we live in a place where integration of coloreds and white, wasn't until
VERY late in 1970, maybe even 1971.  there are still bathrooms, that
have coloreds, and whites :(

sucks, a chilling reminder of what is was like.

this town sucks, VERY still, VERY segregated...

we are right on the mason-dixon line, and salisbury was one of the LAST
to integrate schools, etc...in the whole state of maryland.

Yes, I agree. Cosby is a wise man, and probably does carry alot of
weight.

This man talks sense.  I think that he's got good points too.  If I talk
with someone, regardless of their race, and they can't speak correctly
and
can't enunciate words right, I assume they're not that intelligent
(Bush) or
just lazy.

"I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where
you
is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said
then. "And then I heard the father talk ... Everybody knows it's
important
to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with
that
kind of crap coming out of your mouth."
