With these guys they're fairly short lived - 6 to 10 years, more
closer to 6 though. Part of the problem is with Marshal Farms - the
largest commercial breeder around. They have a very limited genetic
stock and push a lot of ferrets out there. That's why you see a lot of
ferrets having problems like insulinoma or adrenal sarcoma. Private or
hobby breeders on the other hand almost never see this. Ferrets from
small breeders frequently live much longer than 6 or 7 years.
Thanks on the sugar glider offer. I think it may be a bit too much. We
have two young ferrets right now that seem to be airborne enough as it
is. I caught one of them last night on the top shelf of my desk trying
to steal my gel wrist rest and pad. She also leaps about 2 feet off
the ground and at least 3 feet horizontally. She is so active, she
puts the energizer bunny to shame.
