According to Catholic teachings, being a homosexual, in and of itself, is considered a "condition" or a personal cross to bear if you would and is not a sin.  Indulging in homosexual sex is a mortal sin.  Catholic teachings are that homosexuals should follow a vow of chastity.

Also, acts of contrition are a start, but the single act would not make up for a life of evil behavior...  It's the act of contrition followed by a positive effort to not repeat the sin...

it's called an act of contrition. I am not sure it works for mortal
sins though... but then I am not even sure homosexuality is considered
a sin, since it's homosexuality we are discussiong.

Sure but on your death bed if you (i forget the wording its been
awhiel since i've been to church) if you ask forgiveness and accept
jesus as your lord and savior then boom all your mistakes are whipped
away. Sure i know there are 1001 different views on it in the bible
let alone the major organized religions of the world.

I mean if we're on that subject people who goto hedo are damned to
hell for rejecting gods teachings. Live your life well and in the end
  you will be rewarded.

God loves everyone, but the Catholic religion specifically states that
there are those that will enter into heaven, and those that are damned
to hell for rejecting gods' teachings and/or doing evil upon the world.

This is a fundamental tenent of the Roman Catholic faith.

The Roman Catholic Faith has it that Homosexuality is wrong.

Therefore if one is a Roman Catholic then this is a teaching of your
    faith.

One is not using the "god" card any more than a Jew is using the 'God'
Card for not working on the Sabbath.

And if you respect other people's religions and the teachings of those
religions you would not refer to them as 'close minded' when the
teachings of that religion does not match your own.

God professes love for everyone, but that is hardly the end of the
    story.

You teach him to love and respect everyone but you don't tell him people
have gay sex? And i'm sorry if your value of life is different then some
    people
who have more open minds but come on you are going to start sounding
like a religous zealot.  My favorite pastor in the world who married me
was very open to anyones beliefs and because he lived in the real world
he even told his kids about what it was and that it was those peoples
    choice.

I get tired of when people play the GOD card as their excuse for being
closeminded and scared of something different. God loves everyone no
    matter what, end of story.

Now where what you choose to do when raising your kids will help
determine how they turn out. You either say when 2 people in love and
married/civil union have sex and be honest. Or you say a man/woman and
you keep them living in the dark ages. You can only shelter a kid for so
long before they realize, hay mom is full of crap or she has no clue
    about real life.

*shrugs* good luck to you, you'll need it.________________________________
