Interracial adoption, gay adoption, abortion and several issues all stem (at least it seems to me) from the simple assumed truth that if it couldn't occur "naturally" then it's wrong. I've also never encountered anybody with issues on these topics where those issues didn't stem from a religious root.
What always strikes me is that most critics side-step their fundamentalism and instead try, desperately in cases, to show how clearly "bad for the child" such a situation is. They continually cite anecdotal situations which "prove" their point while not bolstering their arguments. When it comes right down to it however some people (well, unfortunately, many people) just don't like to see that. So they try to eliminate the cause of their discomfort by claiming a concern for the children. However those same people are not as nearly concerned with the much larger number of children living in (same-sex, same-race) foster care, in poverty or otherwise having a poor quality of life. It boggles the brain. On one hand you see commercials reminding folks about adoption, yet on the other hand folks are being told they can't adopt. So I guess it is better the child be raised in an orphanage than by same sex parents. Geeze. I just don't get it. Of course, my wife and I get some of this as well since we adopted outside our race. It is almost as if some people think we are crazy for not adopting white kids, or adopting outside America. (The classic moment was after 9/11 when someone shot my wife a dirty look.... since we know that Asians were piloting the planes. Sorry, make that non-white people, they are all the same, right? Ok, I'll stop ranting.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:135726 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
