Child Protective Services (CPS) in Washington State has had a number of cases over the last decade that have sort of blown up on them. The most notable being the child abuse scandal in Wenatchee wherein several adults were tried and convicted based on what turned out to be coerced (the Sheriff was convicted recently of forcing children to fabricate testimony) and fabricated (from the kids and other adults) testimony. It has had the net effect on CPS of making them a bit gun-shy.
