Specifically, if a WinXP machine which had installed "SpySweeper" was upgraded to SP2, then it would get "Access denied" just as you describe and even though, also as you describe, they were successfully logged in to the Xserve. Turning up Samba logging to level 4 (which you have to do by editing /etc/smb.conf) revealed that the client was sending over a bogus file path. The fix was to uninstall/install SpySweeper. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored. As I have assembled 100 units, I have tried many things. As pointed out, it is certainly true that plenty of flux can make a lot of difference. But as for blob soldering, it works for larger components but I never got it to work for the small one. Maybe a solder mask would help. The component is an 16 pin SMT dip with about 9 to 10 mils between conductors that are 9 to 10 mils wide. My first thought was to glob it on and soak up the excess with braided wick. It can make a very neat job if you don't soak too much up but it takes more time than getting it "right" in the first place. I'll have to retry globing when I get boards with a solder mask. 0.015 solder seems to be the common "smallest" size and that is what I am using now. I haven't tried smaller but I think it would help to keep it from bridging. It is not hard to correct but I have to make another 100 units so the time can add up. Solder paste would be nice to try with a hot air unit as suggested. And a flux pen, next time. My DigiKey order just went in today. Anak saya sekarang udah 3 bln. waktu usianya sktr 2 bulanan, pernah suatu saat dia muntahin lagi susu yang saya kasih padahal dia kayaknya lagi laper, tapi abis dia isep, langsung dia sembur lagi. Ternyata dia nggak suka dg dotnya, karena kebetulan baru saya ganti baru. Mungkin seperti kata mbak rita kali ya, karena dotnya baru jadinya bau karet atau mungkin terlalu keras. Setelah saya kasih dot yang lain, dia langsung mau. Sampai sekarang kadang2 dia juga nggak langsung mau kalo dikasih susu, dicicipin dulu terus didorong dotnya, ditunggu sebentar, baru dikasih lagi, dia langsung mau. Imunisasi DPT 1 waktu umurnya 2 bulan 10 hari (tgl 23 Nov), BBnya 7,3Kg, tingginya 64cm,(BB lahir 3,9Kg,tinggi 49). These techniques enable visibility throughout the entire seven-layer OSI model of the network stack. In this model, the ultimate payload data is carried at the application layer. But the evolution of the term "application" has led to some confusion as to what defense at this level really means. Today, it implies at least three different types of security - and it's important to know the differences. The first type revolves around techniques having visibility into network traffic throughout the stack. Sometimes referred to as "application-level" defenses, the real implication of these techniques is that they extend firewall concepts beyond past approaches which concentrated on threats primarily at Layers 3 and 4 - that is, maliciously or malformed IP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, or other protocols that operate at this level. Merging techniques of intrusion prevention with firewalls, application-level defenses can now examine and act on threatening network content at every layer. Defenses are network- as well as host-based. Network defenses imply a high degree of performance, as suggested by the powerful deep inspection technologies of Juniper Networks, or the innovative parallelism of the Radware security switch - but they also blur boundaries with emerging intrusion prevention techniques, such as those being developed by Sourcefire. In addition, a number of other defenses have visibility into application-level content, but fly under a more specific banner, such as the many different approaches to content filtering and security. Then there is a subset of these defenses that provides application security proper. If your goal in deploying application-level defense is securing applications themselves, this is the functionality you need to know about. In this sense, "application" refers to the n-tier integration of functionality that supports many of today's Web-enabled environments - so the term "Web application" is also used in this context. These applications typically combine Web, database, security and network functionality, and may include ERP systems, for example. Because of the many claims and counterclaims in this area, a group of vendors representing different approaches to this aspect of application security have collectively put forward a minimum standard for what application security means in this sense. In combination with the respected ICSA Labs division of TruSecure (now Cybertrust since merging with Betrusted), the standards proposed by F5 Networks, Imperva, NetContinuum and Teros include: prevention of command execution attacks; the enforcement of strict controls on application inputs; and prevention of tampering with form fields, URLs, parameters, and state information such as cookies. A third major and emerging aspect of application-focused security is the increasing segment of vendors that focus on the defense of malicious or malformed XML. Sometimes called "XML firewalls," vendors include DataPower, Forum Systems, and Reactivity. This segment is positioning itself to secure a growing number of Web services deployments, considered by many to be the future of distributed application integration. With this profusion of focus on securing the application content of today's infrastructures, it's no wonder that there is often confusion as to what "application security" really means. But it's becoming increasingly critical for the enterprise to know and understand the differences. Security objectives for service-level management are still in their infancy, yet enterprises as well as service providers are under scrutiny as never before for compliance and liability issues directly related to application and identity security. We'll look at these increasingly critical aspects of service management in upcoming newsletters. Shouldn't > the extension have failed to load because of a missing symbol? No. Any extension will load as long as the symbols IT requires to be there are matched up properly at link time. C++ objects (like IOKit kexts) simply have a pointer as the first element for the class which corresponds with the vtable. The vtable is alloced at object creation time, zeroed, and filled in with pointers to methods from your kext. Since you don't have any code that corresponds to that method, I believe it just stuffs a zero/NULL ptr in there. When it tries to call the virtual function later, it branches to an offset into the vtable which is NULL and that's why you get the INST (0x400) access error from the processor. I'm pretty sure this is how it works, but Godfrey/Dean will pipe up if I'm not ;-). If you're asking if our linker/kext loader should be smarter about not loading your code into the kernel if you don't fulfill all the requirements for pure-virtual methods, that's not something I'm really qualified to answer (Godfrey could though). I think that most of the kernel assumes that if you loaded the code into the kernel, it's trusted implicitly by nature and if the programmer has a bug, she has to fix it. Besides, preflighting all the vtables would be tedious and burn a lot of CPU cycles...Maybe a DEBUG kernel could do that though. Don't know how good the risk/reward benefit is... -- Chris ------------------ 6 Infinite Loop M/S 306-2MS Cupertino CA 95014 phone: (408) 974-4033 fax: (408) 862-7577 email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. You'll need to modify the functions in gamemovement.cpp: const Vector& CGameMovement::GetPlayerMins( bool ducked ) const { return ducked ? VEC_DUCK_HULL_MIN : VEC_HULL_MIN; } You could add this to the movevars and copy it in from the entity - then SetCollisionBounds() would work - but you'd need to send the hull bounds over to the client for proper prediction. In the case of ducking, we want to predict the transitions too, so we implemented the hull size changes in the shared movement code. You'll probably want to do the same if your mod is multiplayer.
