You're delusional if you think that Racism isn't still a problem in the United States.
According to National US Census data in 2000, 89.5% of CEOs were White. 75.1% of Human Resource Managers were White, but only 72.8% of the entire working population of 137,668,735 in the US was White... And you DON’T see a problem? There is a considerable amount of Non Whites in the workforce but they ARENT CEOs or getting into Management positions. Are you trying to say that it's because so many of them just aren't qualified?? And even if you ascribe to this nebulous thinking, then why not? Is it because they weren't given the same oppurtunities at a secondary and tertiary education level as Whites? Or is it because they're just plain dumber than Caucasians? In 1996 Affirmative action programs in California and Washington were cancelled, with the result that enrollment by Non Whites to California's Top Universities plummeted. I suppose you see this as a good thing, and not a sign of there being a problem in the United States that needs addressing. Affirmative Action was to enable talented people to enter various occupations and educational programs without regard to race (Macionis,1995), however due to the prevalent Racist status quo in the US in practice Affirmative Action means that employers and college admissions carefully monitor hiring and promotion to eliminate discriminated against Minorities. To combat this racist practice some organisations used quotas under which specific numbers of qualified minotiryt members would be accepted to fill vacant positions.(Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman,1997). So the 'quota' thing was as a result of Racism and of Caucasian business owners and admissions faculty resisting the spirit of the original Affirmative Action proposals and intentionally making it difficult to impossible for Non Whites to get hired, or to get into top universities. This has been DOCUMENTED and the documents, surveys and results have been thoroughly scrutinised on ALL sides and have been held to be correct, and hence the REASOn for Affirmative Action in the first place! What are you saying that suddenly in 2004,2005 things have all changed? Several studies hold that you are quite incorrect, and are either experiencing cognitive dissonance or being criminally disingenuous. For years many African Americans and Minorites have been discriminated against in your country and prevented from participating in the most desirable jobs and universities simply because of their race! Even when this was declared unconstitutional the practice still persisted! (Beuchamp and Bowie,1993).African Americans in particular still face a variety of institutionalised racism and racially motivated negative actions that their Caucasian counterparts do not face.Some of the major problems are their being channeled into minority positions, lack of access to network and mentors, promotion and advancement difficulties and emotional and psychological maltreatment (Queralt, 1996) Qualified African Americans and other minorities are routinely passed over for jobs and promotions in favour of less qualified Caucasian males (McCoy,1994) For example in 1995 about 40 percent of managers were women, while 97 percent of Senior managers of Fortune 1000 Industrial and Fortune 500 companies were Caucasian with 96% of them being males. In Fortune 2000 Industrial and service companies, 5 percent of Senior Managers were women, and virtually ALL of them were Caucasian. (Kilborn 1995). North America has a history of mistreatment and discrimination against Afircan Americans and this demands that an effective policy be put in place to protect them from Human Rights Abuses. White Americans have perpetrated these crimes against the human and civil rights of this race of people, not the other way around.Get angry about it, try to deny it all you want, but you *Cannot*.
