That sounds like USB/Firewire connections being made and dropped.

Go to Control Panel and choose "Sounds and Audio Devices" then choose the
"Sounds" tab.

In the "Program Events" list select the "Device Connect" and the "Device
Disconnect" sounds - you can play them with the play button at the bottom.
Are they your sounds?

If so then you've got a bum something.  Most likely (since you say you've
changed ports) a bum port on your mobo.  However this can also be caused by
power fluctuations (trying a powered hub might solve it), cracked wires or
lots of other things.

In effect your device is disconnecting and quickly  re-connecting over and
over in an endless cycle of death and rebirth... like a phoenix rising from
ashes of it's old life to sup at the table of possibility!

(That sounded better than "busted 'puter")
