Not only do you severely reduce the IRS (I don't think it can be eliminated there will still be cheaters, just much easier and thus less man power to find them), you would also severely reduce the number of CPA's in the world. Just imagine all the good they could do for the world if they didn't have to spend so much time doing peoples overly complex taxes. I can't imagine anything, but maybe somebody more creative then me?
But seriously, how nice would be for us simple, single source wage earners to get a 3x5 tax form that says, "You earned $X, you have had $Y dollars withheld from you paychecks." You sign it as correct and return it.
