Go to the display properties, Settings tab.  Look in the Display: area.
If it says something like "Default monitor on VGA Adapter" or something
generic like that, then it hasn't detected it yet.

Sometimes, you can get lucky by going to the Windows Update web site.
If it's a popular adapter, Windows Update may download/install the
driver for you.

However, if it is a popular adapter, XP install should have detected it
during installation.  Even if XP did detect it, it may have have the
latest drivers.
