theoretically the school should not have released any information.
Theoretically, I say. I believe they are more stringent if they know
that there are custody issues, based on some discussions I had with
Oregon schools after I found my MIL outside our house one morning
(some 3000 miles from hr house) with no prior warnng.

I would make *sure* that the principal and all of the children's
teachers are aware of this attempt, which smells a lot like these
children may be in danger, unless there are known issues like the
above. For this reason I would also notify the local police
department. They may tell you that there is nothing they can do
because no crime has been committed in their jurisdiction, but I think
not. Online issues regarding the safety of children have received a
great deal of attention lately and for all you know they have other
similar cases like this that escalated to abduction.

I would stress to these parents that there is no such thing as
over-reacting in a case like this. Personally, I would consider
transferring them or keeping them out of school for a while until the
matter is resolved.

Yahoo should certainly be notified as their account is being used in
an attempt to impersonate someone else. But this is no mere identity
theft; people are asking about the whereabouts of children. Therefore
I would get law enforcement involved asap.
