I think a company forgetting the people that made them successful is important.
Maybe that is something we need to understand. We didn't make MM successful, we helped Allaire. Now that it is MM they seem to have other things to worry about. I have been working with CF now for about 4 years. I have seen the company grow. I know some people have been working even longer. I remember one guy saying that he remembers calling the Tech support and getting Jeremy. But those days are gone. They have more people, and a more robust product. But when the people behind the product start to do things that alienate some of their major supporters, especially when the product is not the most popular, they will start to lose their support base. We have a lot of choices. Everybody I have seen posting to these different lists is intelligent and if they needed to they could move to a different language. A company like MM can loose a lot of customers, but alienating people. The Web Development community seems to be very close. There are supporters of different languages, apps, methods, etc. But on the whole politics still determines what people go with. I am going to use whatever language is best for the project I am working on. If I am doing an analysis for a project and I find that CF is the best choice, I will use it. But if it is close, I might go for something else. It all depends on how MM treats their customers.
