Don't count on it. The PowerPC was always an open platform
architecture. When it was introduced, MS even distrubuted a version of
Windows to developers that ran on it. Intel apparently made threats
and MS pulled it.

It used to be a special ROM on Mac motherboards that was part of the
boot process of the OS. With the transition to OS X, they no longer
use that method, but they do still have a programmable firmware on the
motherboard that sets it to run the OS. My guess is that is what will
need to be present on the Intel boards that can run OS X.

BTW, for those that didn't follow the announcement, Jobs did demo OS X
running on Intel hardware. He also said that OS X was developed for
both PPC and x86 behind closed doors from the beginning. (No surprise
considering NeXT history.)
