This is a possibility. If oil goes to $70 a gallon, all sorts of things become 
economical. Here are some others:

Oil shale:

Oil sands (bitumen):

These are two enormous potential sources of oil that have barely been tapped 
because, until recently, the economics were not there to produce and sell the 
oil at a reasonable price.

The WEC has a bunch of other links to worldwide data on every possible sort of 
energy source you could think of, and some (like Tidal energy) you may not have 
considered as potential energy sources.

Ultimately we need to get away from fossil fuels.
