I don't know if they're faster, my Nova was rated at 835 HP on the stand and
around 735 at the wheels, it'd do mid eights in a quarter mile. I used to have
so much fun with this car 'cause to the casual observer it looked and sounded
terrible, (black primer and the typical "cam-lope" plus the whining of the
blower and the gear drive).

Took an 83 Corvette one night street racing, over a two and a half mile
stretch, by almost a minute.

I remember all of that stuff:

Dual Holley carb, Thrush torqueshaft, Mr. Gasket shift kit, Keystone
mags, "meats", etc.

It's all of the same stuff, just way faster cars. Although some of
them don't feel fast and that can be a problem. The great thing is,
though, that you can buy a $30K Evo 8, put a few grand into it, and
rock corvettes, ferraris, etc. Some of these cars have 500 whp and
higher.
