Petsmart and Petco usually have rescue animals available (they provide space for groups to put cats for adoption) It also gives you a chance to "meet" the cat before hand.
I have three rescues, one from a private rescue org, one from the local shelter and one was a feral kitten. The forth is my wife's cat (pre us) I believe he's a rescue also. Some advice: the majority of rescue cats seem to be female, make sure you get your cat spayed or neutered, (most rescue orgs or shelters make it a requirement) it'll save your sanity later (my feral isn't fixed, she's too old at this point, she still goes into heat at 14, the yowling and constant cleaning up after her drives us nuts, but when she's not possessed she's a sweet cat) Scott A. I see them given away so many times here (on FreeCycle), then they end up at a shelter after 3 posts, figured I'd grab one before it had to go there. In my mind it's the same. As long as they are getting out/staying out of the shelter, I'm happy. I'd never buy one from a pet store, that's for sure. We don't have a city/town "pound" here, we have SPCA and rescue groups that take them. Ian Skinner wrote: > Will I will answer anyway. The Pound.
