Even reading that article, I'm not sure what the fuss would be about. It's a known fact that Canada and the US were at odds with softwood lumber issues. And that Canadians in general take their health care system to heart.
Attack ads are a display of weakness of character (IMO, although, even though he says that they wouldn't take part in attack ads, I believe they likely will... but I guess we'll see) Canada is Canada, the US is the US. They are different and should be. Nothing wrong with that. As for an appologee, for those comments... I'm not exactly sure what he said from that article... I know he has pubicly stated the recent difficulties in dealing with the US on trade, but I don't see anything wrong with that. There are a few years of frustration. When 2 nations are discussing issues, they are usually only ready to move on something when there is something to be gained. Those softwood lumber/mad cow/border crossing talks really always went no where for Martin... so his voicing it isn't an attack IMO. Although, it may not flatter the Bush gov. When it comes to appologies in politics, I don't remember any. Although there likely are some due. If you have more details on what Martin did say, I would be interested in reading. Bottom line... In world politics, nations are after their interests.
