One of the things about ADSI is that you can use it to query the Global
Catalog, which is import to us as we have several thousand users spread
across multiple forests.

Also, you let the SQL Server determine which domain controller to use. That
way, if a domain controller is down when the query runs, it can
automatically be redirected to one that is working.

Just make sure you have more than one Global Catalog Server.
