A common misconception it seems, some people have to reduce everything to money - bizarrely they are usually the same people who say that the war wasn't about money/oil. In Europe there was very strong public opinion against the war - even in the UK a majority was against it, it's just we have a Prime Minister who is famous for ignoring public opinion.
