I have been cast in a local production of "Noises Off" and being that everyone in the show is American and supposed to be British, we're trying to nail down the correct pronunciations of various towns referenced in the script. The language CDs for accents can do wonders but they don't cover things like: Ashford-under-Lyne: is the last bit pronounced Line or Linn? Weston-Super-Mare: Mehr or Mahr or Mahr-ay? Basingstoke: Bay-sing-stoke? or Bah-sing-stoke? and if you were going to summer in Marbella on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain, would you tell your friends you were summering in Mar-BELL-a (as it is spelled) or Mar-BAYA (as it would be pronounced in Spanish)? Oddly enough, Aberystwyth hasn't caused much of a problem. Thanks very much! -- will "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; and that would just be unacceptable." - Carrie Fisher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:205582 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
