Did you read what I wrote? What I quoted? No you don't have to provide such proof, but in many states a private citizen would be completely within his or her rights in arresting you if you didn't provide them.
And I didn't believe you, otherwise there wouldn't be laws concerning false arrests and/or imprisonment. You arrest me; you'll get sued by me. So I guess if your point is that it is within your rights to arrest me and then be sued.
