OK, I am finally going to break down and get a new desktop system at home.
My trusty Athlon XP 2500+ has seen its best days. It still works fine but it
feels dog slow for development, especially when I run CFMX in developer mode
and a db server on it at the same time. So what should I get and when should
I get it?

I have been an AMD fan for a few years but the Intel Core2 Duos are way too
sweet to pass up if I buy now. The only thing I am wondering about is
whether I should wait until spring. Intel has a quad-core processor out but
it is very pricey right now. AMD is following with one in the spring. I've
been thinking I'll get a Core2 Duo with a mobo that supports quad core and
I'll just upgrade when the chips come down. Probably build it myself or buy
from a local custom vendor. I don't need kick-ass graphics, just hi-res dual
monitor support. I'm also thinking of going straight to 4 GB RAM and 10K
Raptor disks.

Opinions?
