We have several colour swatches that we could switch to.. The blue is a very
dark one and we felt it was to heavy. Lighter blues to us just look either
too garish or too weak...

Well, therein lies a tale. We have so many screens :) We've tested it on
1440x900, 1280x1024, 1024x768 and 1344x768. 
Ideally, as long as the site is on a screen with 800x600 the majority of the
site should be visible and usable. 1024x768 should give full view of the
site content.

Can you take a screenshot of what you see with IE6 and e-mail it offlist. We
have one IE6 machine and it isn't showing anything like what you are
describing...
