I don't know and I don't care. I don't like to ask Microsoft's
permission before I use my own computer. Verizon said is was Vista
Compatible and I installed it. I did reinstall VZAccess first thing
after I reinstalled Vista and then reinstalled (almost) everything
else I had on there.

The system's working now without a hitch. I did notice something when
I installed VZAccess that I didn't remember before though. One of the
install wizard steps asks if I want VZAccess to only detect WLAN (the
verizon card) devices or Wi-Fi *and* WLAN. and it defaults to the
latter. I don't remember this option fromt he first time I installed
it so I suspect that I double clicked through it and somehow skipped
the screen, leaving it set to detect both.

Now I am no expert on VZAccess, but I suspect this made it attempt to
take over control of the Wi-Fi card and probably it was at that point
that it corrupted my WLan service. So the moral of the story is not
to allow any other Wi-Fi managers get installed on Vista, and if you
get a wireless Broadband card, pay attention and choose to install
only the parts you need.
