And, of course, it totally misses the point: there is an environmental impact of not just driving a car, but of planning, building, and disposing of it. If you're truly concerned about the environment you'll take into account all of those factors. Further the report doesn't ding Priuses, or even Hybrids; in fact it explicitly says that it's not endorsing any technology just giving a consumer report made with some assumptions. The point is simple: the Prius is a complex vehicle with 2 engines and lots of mechanisms, electronics, and programming to make them work together. That's a lot of design and planning, not to mention the battery and second engine that need to be installed and disposed of.
