Actually Smarter Stats, at least, runs _as_ a server (it's a web-based app
which comes with its own optional HTTP Server) but doesn't have to run on
the web server you're analyzing.  You can install it on your workstation and
run it from there - you just have to give it access to the logfiles (either
by copying them to your local machine, creating a network share drive or
something like that).

I run a dedicated SmarterStats VM on my dev-server to manage log files from
several remote servers.  It works just fine.
