Lets simplify this even more:

We know that the by products of industry and many of our modern conveniences
are toxic and are known to damage the planet. Wouldn't it just make
practical common sense to curb the impact that these by-products have on the
environment?

Why in the world would it be prudent to rely on what we can say with
confidence? You'd eliminate most of modern medecine, for a start, if
you appled that rule. Even assuming that Gruss' summary of the science
is correct, which I question. I suspect that it's pretty well proven
that global warming exists and it's man-made.

Look, a big truck is coming! It's in your lane! If it keeps going
you'll have a head-on with it! Can you say with confidence that it
will not get back into its own lane? No? Well gee... carry on.
