I know things have changed in the 25 years sice I earned the badge, but the requirements are actually kind of useful now. Besides the typical history and components, etc. the Scouts have to fo three of the following:
- Use a DBMS to make a Troop roster and sort the data - Use a spreadsheet to make a food budget for a weekend camping trip - Use a word processor to wite a letter and use mail merge to personalize each - Use a graphics program to create a campsite plan or a flyer - Use a presentation package to create a presenation on any topic - Use a search engine to find ideas for a Troop event - Use a digital camera to take a picture, transfer it to a computer, resize it and send it as an email - Describe 2 computer chip devices and how they are smater because of the chips Some of these are trivial for kids today, but others could be tougher, especially since I'm an asshole and will make them actually produce something useful and reuse it in the future.
