I think it is: it's a difference of degree, not of kind.

You're defining, personally, what you find valuable. That can be some
concrete like a sunroof or something ethereal like a principle.

Some principles (or features) are so valuable that you've decided not to
live without them. Other's are "nice to haves". Any decision is a balance
between what you value and what you don't. We prioritize these things and
make compromised decisions.

For example:

Racism is a negative to me. If introduced to a racist person I would not be
friendly to them. However I tolerate my grandmother's racism (or at least I
do much more than I would a stranger's). This doesn't mean that I approve
of racism but rather that I'm willing to forgive my grandmother this obvious
fault since I value family loyalty and her more.

Poor gas mileage is a negative to me. If shopping for a car I would steer
clear of those with bad mileage. However if I won a car with bad mileage in
a contest I would probably keep it. I value a free car more than I dislike
bad mileage.

Of course this doesn't mean that I consider gas mileage as important a topic
as racism: but I use the same logical system to make decisions based on
them. Again, it's a difference of degree, not of kind.
