No, we bought the car *very* used (but perfectly safe and usable) at a very good price. Previous owner ran the living hell out of it before we got hold of it. I fully expected to need a complete engine rebuild after four or five years.
The Geo Prizm is actually a Toyota Corolla, IIRC. The Corolla engine is famous for its reliability. The only thing I've heard that needs particular attention is the timing belt, and normal maintenance takes care of that. So now we get a new (probably a certified rebuild, which is just as good) engine that should last a good 100K+ miles. I'm assuming that they aren't replacing the transmission, so that will probably be the next major assembly to fail, but that's reasonably expected considering the history. I believe the entire thing is going to cost us $75 out of pocket on the deductible. The total financed cost of the extended warranty is way less than the cost of this one repair alone. All other repairs on the engine have been reasonable and expected by anyone's standard, and they have been few. This is a great deal. The car is a Geo made by Toyota. Original Toyota engine blows, replaced with Toyota engine, you say this one'll last forever, but the first one only lasted 4 years. Huh?
