I really got tired of having my pc reboot everytime a damn ms update
came through...which was 3 times last week. Unfortunately, our group
policy is set to automatically download and install the updates.

By using regmon from sysinternals, you can see which registry keys are
being accessed by opening up the windows update control panel.

After you figure out what keys, in this case, they were in hklm/
software/policies/microsoft/windows/windowsupdate/au, you change the
settings in regedit to what you want (I set AUOptions =3). Then you
remove permission from "system" to write to that registry key.

Now my system will automatically download and notify me. I also
applied the same technique to my screensaver. The old screensaver was
a logo that floated around the screen. I changed it to
'jkdefrag'.....nothing like having you windows pc always defragged.

BTW, all this was sanctioned by the network admin. He just didn't
want to have to change the group policy for me.

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more
