Of course it WILL be worded like that, but the simple fact that an in-utero condition may be at fault doesn't make it a "defect". [Nothing but conjecture and fanciful thought follow.] There are clear evolutionary advantages to homosexualty in some cases. A social group is made stronger when it's members are happy and productive. If one gender, for whatever reason, starts to outnumber the other homosexuality may provide a social "pressure release" allowing more members of the group to be sexually happy without the infighting and jealousy that might otherwise occur. Also, since many homosexuals also take on some of the social roles of the opposite sex this may provide for a more balanced community when the sexes are out of balance (providing more masculine hunters or more feminine nurturers). It may also be a "mistake" in that, perhaps, we've evolved a sexual selection method based on the male zygote, but have not completely lost the hormonal selection method still used by some of our lower relatives. Perhaps the fetus is set as "male" but environmental factors cause the mother to "treat it" as a female - something that would actually change the sex in some other animals. There are plenty of other organs, systems, reactions and other evolutionary "left-overs" that we're stuck with - this would just be one more. Some of them are more dangerous (a burst appendix will ruin your day much more than a dude-on-dude kiss). Just thinking out loud.
