The only practical difference between a 'defect' and a 'genetic
characteristic' is the ability of those with the defect/characteristic to
demand that they be accepted as-is. (gotta love democracy) This is happening
to a certain degree with autism.

Brain science is pretty fascinating...and there are still plenty of things
that we don't understand.

Of course it WILL be worded like that, but the simple fact that an in-utero
condition may be at fault doesn't make it a "defect".
