I have two ReadyNAS units, one older ReadyNAS X6 and one newer NV+. The
newer model is about 2/3 the size of the older model and quite a notch
faster (faster processor) but the units share the exact same firmware and
hardware capabilities.

I've got 1.2 TB (four 400Gb disks) in the older one and 3 TB (four 1000Gb
disks) in the newer one. I used the older one for several years and the
newer one for the past 6 months or so. Beyond one easily fixed (remotely,
for free, by tech support) problem I've had nothing but awesome from them
both.

Truly excellent support via the (professionally moderated) online forums and
amazing reliability features. The units can perform backups of any network
machines, can control/monitor USB-based UPS units and can even do autonomous
BitTorrent downloads if that's your thing. Media streaming is provided by
any of several servers and (since the system is actually just running
FreeBSD) you can add your own if you need to.

I can't praise them enough - the only (and significant) downside is the
cost. They're fully worth it, but you'll pay a high premium over something
like the Buffalo unit. Check eBay tho' - that's where I got my NV+ at a
much reduced price.
