I agree.  States should have more power and tax locally - then choose
how to spend it within their own state.  Less dependence on the
federal system for these sorts of things would be great.  Then you
have 50 states doing it "their own way" and plenty of competition
about how they are doing it.

Then if you didn't like the way a state operated, you could more out
of it.  Kinda like my decision to move out of taxifornia....
