I would set it up like Russert and Meet The Press: * Triangular table * 2 candidates * 1 moderator The Russert host would start with candidate #1 and do a Russert type interview, asking the 2nd candidate to weigh in where appropriate. Then he'd switch to candidate #2 and repeat. I got WAY more out of those interview than I ever do out of debates. And the reason is simple: Russert's rule was to reveal what the person REALLY thought by challenging them with what they've said. THAT'S the type of debate we need.
